Every picture gets at least a 1 star rating when importing raw files and Lightroom XMP

I’ve started importing a large collection of Lightroom XMPs and raw files.

I’ve noticed that every image gets at least a one star rating. That kind of messes up my order. I used 1 star images to rate “a good family picture”. Now every image is at least a 1 star image. No image gets no star.

Ideas?

Whenever you import images, each image receives a default rating which you can define in the import module.
darktable user manual - star ratings & color labels

Oh, dang. Thanks! I guess I’ll just re-import them.

May not work, the star rating has probably been written into the XMP.

The original Lightroom XMP or the newly created darktable XMP? :grimacing:

The new and in the database. It is easier to select the 1 star and remove the star(0).

Thanks! That sounds like it wouldn’t work. That would remove the 1 star rating for the images that was rated 1 in Lightroom (and should be rated 1 in darktable)?

If I remember correctly, Lightroom has its own XMPs, right? The naming is file123.xmp, not file123.ext.xmp (e.g. P8077996.xmp, while darktable has P8077996.JPG.xmp).
If so, after you remove (careful, not delete!) the files from darktable, delete the file123.ext.xmp files (but keep Lightroom’s file123.xmp), then reimport.

Correct.

I’ve only imported year 2016 from Lightroom. Collections module is set to show “files: folder”. I’ll just right click the 2016 folder and use “remove…”.

Next I’ll search the entire 2016 directory with KFind for *.*.xmp and delete the these darktable XMPs.

Lastly I’ll import the 2016 directory again with the “initial rating” set to “0”:

For anyone that comes after me, it worked well. Embedded DNG metadata and Lightroom sidecar metadata was imported.
