@patdavid has explained the default and why, but let me mention that in this forum software you can change your personal settings from the preferences.
- Click your user icon in the upper right.
- Click the
gear icon for your Preferences page - Go to the “Interface” section
- Select “Open all external links in a new tab”
- Click “Save Changes”
- Bob’s your uncle.
