It is a wonderful shot. Nice pastel-like colours and decent framing. There is no need for extensive editing.

I’m also starting with darktable
As an advanced newbie ( & enthusiastic learner) I am currently working on portraits & skin colors so thanks for the example (also from all the others) 
A monochrome version in darktable 3.4. I lightened that dark spot in the corner as it was distracting me, though it still could do with some work to even it out a bit more.

Natural, soft looking and you did get rid of the “ugliness” at the same time.
