Hmm, interesting. Ill keep an eye on this and experiment with the different export settings and image view.
Thanks for the insights.
Ok, now you are just showing off…
No not showing off, but showing that 24 mp are enough and not “only”.
I wonder what it would look like printed. For screen viewing its more than sufficient indeed.
Welcome @Blaat_Aap ! very nice picture, will not process it as I’m just as new to darktable as you are and others are a bit more fluent doing so… Happen to be a dutch native speaker I guess? Same here.

Jetze
Welcome to the forum. DT is so much more fun than LR. Crashes shouldn’t occur so if they persist create a crash log and make a new post here.
@priort I have posted two JPGs here. the top one, _01, has high quality sampling set and the other one not set. The one without high quality sampling is sharper in my opinion. I never realised this would happen.

Thanks Terry,
It might be my screen, but i couldnt tell them apart. Do you see any difference?
Regarding the crashes, its mostly style related and weirdly sometimes when i cmd+z a drawn mask. Ill make a separate post for it seen if it persists.
It might be related to something fixed in the development version a few days ago.
I only see the difference with the image as displayed on the forum before you maximise the image and then I don’t see a difference if I maximise each image to 100%. I don’t understand the logic of that, but it is what I see.
You must be on a Mac. So if you do make a post about the crashes do mention your OS and DT version.
Nice! I like what you did with the light!
Not too long ago I switched from fuji aps-c to nikon full frame because i wasn’t too happy with the files i got with the fuji system. But looking at the files with darktable now… Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me, but the files seem to look way better than in Lightroom… Is that a thing that anyone else noticed?
I’m a big fan of darktable, but it’s all about YOU and what YOU DO with the files.
Imho all the established RAW editors are good enough to make the best out of your pics.
Choosing the right one is more a matter of ease of use, personal preferences and philosophy.
Why have I chosen darktable? On Linux there were not that many RAW editors, when I started. So I decided between darktable and RAWTherapee and chose RT. After I while, I missed the possibility for parametric masks. That was the reason I switched to dt when there were made bigger changes to RT.
I stayed with dt up to today, because there is not much what I miss and I don’t think that other offers a better alternative. Anyway, I sometimes still use RT, especially when there are difficult Light situations with burned highlights. For some reason, I find it then easier to get more pleasant results with RT and so I can have a look what is possible.
While some people are put off by it, in DT the image comes in with less done to it. I think when you build from that point adding the changes you want rather than working from a saturated profile applied by the software that you will have more of the look you want…
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful macro shot, @Blaat_Aap! I’m on the same boat as you, learning dt as a LRc replacement. There’s a lot to learn but it’s always fun to learn new things! Here’s my version:
