I’ve been Linux distro shopping a bit, and one of the things that has jumped out at me, in relation to the Ubuntu universe, is the almost universal adoption of flatpaks as application “format”.
Not to get into a war over the “best” solution for this task, I have to ask is there any chance of ART being available as a flatpak?
I see how it could be taken as flippant, but it’s accurate. You, me, anyone with the time and knowledge could do it. It’s FOSS, anyone is free to do it.
No, it’s not, sorry. I don’t know the technicalities of the format, and I have no interest in learning. So, it will never be supported unless someone else does it.
That’s a reading of the original post that is full of implicit assumptions that are not warranted.
One can ask a question about planned features of a FOSS project for a lot of other reasons, including inquiry (no pressure implied, really just asking), coordination (to check if someone is working on a feature before contributing), etc.
Even if you believe that someone is pressuring the actual contributors, it is best to let the latter respond to that. My understanding is that you are not a contributor to ART (sorry if I missed it), so I am not sure why you thought that anyone was asking you to do any work.
Regarding the original issue: @doobs, if you are interested in taking this up, flatpaks are not that complicated. There is a tutorial, I usually try to find a similar application and copy & modify their approach. Since ART is similar to Rawtherapee, one could look at the Flathub recipe for the latter.
