Four year old tutorial still relevant?

Will videos that are several years old still be helpful? Has Darktable changed that much?

Bruce Williams has a bunch of videos and explains things pretty well but what about the old ones?

Depends on the functionality being discussed. Some modules are virtually identical to four years ago, some are very different, and there are lots of new ones that might give better results than were available four years ago.

@thusband But at the same time, even old-ish tutorials
might give you some valuable ideas.

Bruce Williams is good. https://www.youtube.com/@audio2u

So is Harry Durgin. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsks-zRRM1ZVN_g7P6ZAsYVqTltmXyBjl Listen, for instance, to his reasoning about the red hair girl shot in episode 18.

And our modern Boris Hajdukovic is a must. https://www.youtube.com/user/s7habo

Have fun!

Thanks, I haven’t of those other guys. I’ll check them out.
edit: “haven’t” heard

OK that makes sense. Thanks.

@thusband Links added above.

Some months ago I also started with DT online videos.
A good idea is to sort them chronological and start from the newest.

When you look in parallel on the current modules in DT you will identify very fast,
during turning to the older videos, if one of them is outdated.
I switch also quite often to higher playback speed in order to save time.

I think Aurelien Pierre is also a must, because he demonstrates quite well,
that without a certain motivation to learn the basics of optics+physics+math,
the RAW editing and the user will “stay in the dark”.

Also, don’t forget to bookmark and use the user guide to better understand all the individual modules. As a heavy user of DT I still refer back to the user guide.

I recently watched a video by Boris on converting portrait images to B/W and found it very informative. I definitely will look at more of his videos. I also like the very technical description of the modules that Aurélien Pierre has created for his modules. They explain his logic very well, but I feel he can sometimes make it sound like his way is the only way to do things. Apologies AP if I have misrepresented you in that comment. He has added some fantastic modules to DT like tone equalizer, but I still often use shadow highlights module which he and others may speak against. Photography is all about the look and DT allows us all to find different ways to achieve what we want. AP also created the color calibration module which I often have excellent uses for, but I usually use the white balance module for its simplicity and excellent results with many images. But color calibration module has strengths for certain images.
