I once imported a number of pictures in dt and assigned a six tags to them. Now these tags show in every image since. I have cleared / erased those six tags several times, but they always show up on the next bunch of pictures …

Hi. By ‘the next bunch of pictures’ do you mean the next imported folder or something else?
Yes. Let’s say I took some pictures of my dog on the first of August and tagged them/the folder “dog, puppy, beach, outdoor” in darktable. Now when I’m importing photos from September 5th or November 14th, they all get those tags.
I have erased the tags severalt times, but they keep cropping up. I feel like should never have used the tag-tool in dt and I wish to erase/supress the tags once and for all.
Have you checked the ‘import options’ when importing a folder? There is a tags field in there.
You can apply tags after import, by the way, so this field doesn’t have to be used.
What about the import dialog or the preferences? (DavidOliver was faster.)
You can assign tags during the import. Maybe you have entries in the import options or you can set tags in the preferences to be applied on every import.
