I’d love to see some experimentation in this space, though. Maybe doesn’t seem to make sense now to approach it this way but maybe there’s some really interesting blended layer + node visual UI/UX we haven’t even considered yet that might be really interesting. 
For now, I’d just like plain vanilla non-destruct layers, history, adjustment…
