Gmic extract foreground error

I just built a new linux box, and am fighting with details.

Mint Linux Cinnamon
.8.0-53-generic #56~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Tue May 16 01:18:56 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.8.16 (as per apt-get install)

When I try to use the gmic extract foreground tool I get an error. A youtube tutorial said to set the output mode to “new active layers” but that didn’t solve it.

The error dialog I see says something like:
error in gimp extract foreground command -f undefined variable I in expression V=I

Any ideas?

What version of gmic are you using?

G’Mic for Gimp 2.8 64 bits version 1.6.8

I could try to update the appropriate source paths, to get a newer version of G’Mic for Gimp?
I could look to that

I have compiled Gimp from source in the past. I don’t want to do that now.

OK GMic version 1.6.8 is obsolete and no longer maintained.

The following fixed my problem. I should have been more resourceful.
Thank you.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gmic gimp-gmic
