Gmic for Gimp on OSX

Hi!
I have just installed Gimp 2.8.22 on my sierra OSX.
I intent to install also the gmic for gimp. My last experiences with this installation are not too positive (as an example, for gimp 2.8.20 i was not able to install any gmic).
I have 3 main questions:

  1. which version of gmic is suitable for gimp 2.8.22 on mac?
  2. from where to download it?
  3. how to install it?

thank you!

@KaRo is probably the one who could tell
Hope he’ll get the call for help !

Hi, gmic gimp plugin is not standalone, it is built against certain Gimp builds. Best, you should use Gimp from GimponOSX. Still you can try the plugin gmic_gimp_ngtk from latest git build 2.0.2 (pre-release #170615) http://karo03.bplaced.de/gmic/git/Macgmic_macosx_64-Sierra.dmg, provided your Gimp comes from Gimp.org http://gimp.org/

WoW! The touch of the master. It has worked!

So what I have done:

  1. download gimp from http://gimp.org/
  2. download gmic from http://karo03.bplaced.de/gmic/git/Macgmic_macosx_64-Sierra.dmg
  3. Because the gimp is the one from gimp.org, I used then gmic_gimp_ngtk to put it in the location:
    ~/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins/

The … Gmic Gtk appear in my menu (gray) and when open a photo, it is fully accessible.

Thank you!

PS I am assuming that if i use the gimp from gimponosx I must use the gmic_gimp_gtk in the plugins location. But there I see only the gimp 2.8.18, not the 2.8.22.

From my point of view, case closed (for the moment).

… only for info, there are a lots of persons working on Mac Gimp independently, hence there is the GimponOSX actually 2.8.18 (but with gmic, which can be updated as written) and there is the Gimp.org http://gimp.org/ version which is rather naked in terms of plugins, but more recent. For the latter I have tried to prepare some sort of hack (or poor) plugin, the gmic_gimp_ngtk. Still there is the Partha Gimp 2.9.5 with gmic plugin too!

Thank you again - it is good to know all this kind of stuff. :slight_smile:In windows sometime it is more simple - just click and install LOL. But I preffer OSX (and I am not alone…)

I’ve used @partha’s McGimp for eons. https://www.partha.com/downloads/McGimp-2.9-std.app.zip

thanks!!
