I am trying to make a complete list at my homepage of Canon cameras that work together with Gphoto2. I ask here because more people here than anywhere else use Linux and are familiar with Gphoto2.
Cameras that I own that work are:

50d and 5d2 work as well.
Is Gphoto talking directly to the camera or is it looking at some metadata in the images? If the later I can send you pictures from a 450D and a 70D.
The former is the case. It’s about connecting the camera via USB, downloading images, tethering and reading and setting parameters (shutter count, copyright information etc.).
Canon hasn´t used shutter count in the metadata since 1D II.
To correct myself. R5/R6 and R6 II have an exposure count.
