HELP! Pictures Keep Going ''Dark'' and Uneditable!

I need advice, occasionally when switching to a new picture or the ‘‘next picture’’ the thumbnail for it and the large preview of the image goes gray/black and not editable as shown. I am wondering if there’s just a quick way to return it to normal but it seems like a glitch!

Update

I started pressing the ‘‘power symbol’’ next to each effect until the image comes back into view but haven’t yet pinpointed the source of the issue!

Can you tell us what camera these files are coming from and can you post a screenshot with the history panel open?
