Histogram that shows visisble/zoomed area only?

My process is to zoom in on the subject in the photograph while adjusting exposure and other settings, because the subject is the thing that I want to set exposure levels for.

The histogram in Darktable is great, but it would be even greater if I could use it to measure the relevant part of my photograph. I do not care about measuring the exposure and colors of the sky.

My back of my Leica M10P has the histogram measuring only the visible part of the image when I zoom in. It’s genius. I think every histogram should do this. If I wanted to get a reading of the entire image, I could simply zoom out…

Is there a way to achieve this in Darktable? Having to guess which of the peaks in the histogram represent my subject’s skin is crazy. The workaround of cropping and then uncropping is cumbersome, and does not work on a cropped image.

Use the waveform instead of the histogram. If you don’t know how it works, there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube, since it’s a common feature in video editors.
