How to copy an inverted drawn mask?

I often apply a drawn mask to my background by drawing a mask around the subject and then inverting the polarity of the mask. That part works great. But if I apply that drawn mask to another module, it reverts back to the subject, so I need to invert it again for every module that I apply the mask to. Is there a way that I could copy the background mask without needing to invert it again each time?

One easy way would be to use the raster mask…Draw your mask and invert it in an early module like exposure… and then you can reference it as a raster mask in all other modules…

Thanks. I always forget about raster masks!

They are quite handy and now there is an external raster mask option so that if you have access to other software …potentially AI etc you can import a mask created there…

I personally would just invert it because you also have to do any feathering with the sliders again anyway. At least you don’t have to draw the shape again.

You are aware that raster masks support feathering from 5.2?

No I wasn’t. That is a worthy improvement to the already great masking system.

To make this more precise and even better news:
From v. 5.2 the same mask refinement section as for other masks is available for raster masks, including details threshold, feathering guide and radius, blurring radius and contrast.
