How to install gmic to Flatpack Gimp 2.10

How to install gmic to Flatpack Gimp 2.10 ? I have Mint 18.3

With great difficulty.

I got gmic 2.2.2 gtk working as described in my first venture into flatpak

https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-ubuntu-xenial-and-flatpak?pid=7741#pid7741

I know that the QT version will be an even bigger pain. Might get round to it sometime.
Fortunately, my homespun 2.9.9 appimage manages the QT version.

This flatpak will get updated automatically. It was v2.8.22 stable two days ago before the upgrade to v2.10 stable. G’mic QT worked fine when it was still 2.8.22. Something is missing in the new version, hopefully they will catch it and send out an update for the flatpak.

I still have Gimp 2.8.16 which runs everything just fine, if I need to use G’mic in the meantime.

Gimic-Qt doesn’t work because Gimp runs in a flatpak sandbox and in this sandbox Qt is not included.
There are now several possible solutions to get gimic to work, but all needs changes in gmic or the gimp flatpak.

  1. Link the libs statical to gmic.
  2. Put the libs next to the gmic bin and let gimp find them there. (That’s what the windows version does.)
  3. Gimp could add an extension point for plugins and then you could build gmic as a
    flatpak extension.

For me it looks like 1. is the easiest solution and 3. the best one. But this is all theoretical, I haven’t tested any of this solutions.
