How to manually preprocess Biases, Flats and Darks in Siril >1.2

Hi, the online documentation for manual preprocessing is well written, but it seems to be for an older release as it shows a “Pre-processing” tab rather than “Calibration” in the newer releases.

The above documentation has a step for Pre-processing Flats with a stacked Bias sequence and then stacking the Master-Flats with normalization of “Multiplicative”. For Darks it suggests stacking with “No normalization”.

For Pre-processing Lights the guide shows using the Flats and Darks from the above steps with your lights. However the guide shows no line to add Biases as we have in the newer releases.

My Question(s)

  1. In newer Siril releases what are the recommended steps for stacking Biases?, Flats and Darks i.e. No normalization or Multiplicative? and should Flats be Pre-processed with stacked biases?

  2. I’ve recently started using NINA and their Flat wizard does not capture Biases. (In the NINA forum it seems many folks believe they don’t need Bias frames). Is there a recommendation one way or another for Siril? and if Bias frames aren’t needed does it change how Flats should be stacked i.e. No normalization or Multiplicative?

Sorry for the long question and thanks in advance.

The way we process darks flats and bias does not change following the Siril version.
Yes now the tab is called calibration, but the process stays the same.
So the explanation given in the tutorial are always good.

Thanks for the quick reply, that clears up some confusion.

I followed the online manual and created a Master Flat, but I also added the stacked Bias sequence in the Calibration tab (along with Flats and Darks) when I Calibrated my Lights. I think that may have messed up my Calibrated Lights?

I’ll rerun and see if the result is better.

In NINA on your sequence tab create a new sequence with no target guiding off no slew click on lights and it will show u dark and bias then select dark set ur num frames and duration the same as ur lights then hit the plus to add a new set, set to bias lowest exposure length I shoot dslr so 1/4000 is .00025 seconds
Cover lens and then hit start (I still haven’t figured out how to rename the folders so they are not all caps so this is a manual step for Siril but ur manually PP so doesn’t really matter untill u use ur scripts)
I also found the tutorial very confusing when I went through it check out this guy on the tube
