Ideal pp3 for landscape work?

Hopefully, this won’t seem lazy. Has someone developed a custom profile tweaked for landscapes? I believe I’ve covered the basics like de-noise and sharpening. Please note I have an old 10 Megapixel Canon 400D that gets really noisy on hot days. Also note I once owned a 4x5 and have skewed expectations. Here is my newbie custom profile so far …

I’d love to be wrong, but I don’t think you’re going to find a one size fits all profile for a specific type of shooting.

I’d develop several partial profiles and apply them rather than going for a kitchen sink approach

Although I agree with the specifics of what you’re saying …

I think what I’m trying to say is that I’m probably not as professional with RawTherapee as I would like. Or, am I overlooking some relevant step?

In my view the problem is that ‘landscape’ is not much use as a descriptor for types of photos.

Consider the deep green of a spring English country side view in sunlight, the deep red rocks and soils of a western Australian desert, the white sands of a beach in summer, dark clouds over an ocean in a storm.

I can not imagine that any specific photo editor settings could be applied to this range of situations usefully.

I have read that high end Nikon cameras use an algorithm derived from analysing thousands of images to adjust the tone curve in the processing of every image in the camera.

So this is what you need to emulate if you want to process from raw photo data. Knowledge of how the image should look to be pleasing.

Also most cameras have ‘Landscape’ setting by which they tend to make the greens a bit more vibrant and the skys a bit bluer.

David_Wilson you make a good point. So here are several specific items that are usually the focus of my post processing (starting in RT and completed in GIMP).
1-Smooth gradients in blue skies.
2-Highlight detail in white clouds.
3-Shadow detail in foliage.
4-Smooth gradients in wet surfaces (water etc)

The common thread in all this is probably controlling noise without losing sharpness. I’ve tinkered with all the GMIC de-noise tool and sometimes use more than one in a single image.

I don’t use sidecars myself but I do keep a record of the processing that I have done in the past. I am not so sure about using a sidecar as a preset. If that works for you, I would suggest that you dial down the settings and increase their effect for each photo. That way you don’t over-bake them.
