Image Thumbnail Sizes

So there’s an option for adjusting the max width/height of an image thumbnail when it’s in a post.

I took a chance and modified the default max values to be 690 x 1000 now (that’s the maximum dimension a thumbnail image will be, keeping its aspect ratio). I figured we’re a photography-centric forum - so it made sense.

Can anyone find a reason why this might be bad, or where it shows up as a problem?

Here’s a couple of examples:

This thumbnail should be as wide as the forum text paragraph right now. This is a onebox embed from 500px.

Hopefully this one from Flickr works as well:

I think the posts look much better with bigger images. I worry that they might be too big for some viewports/monitors, though…

I just realized that there’s some quirks to the onebox linking between 500px and Flickr.

Flickr url oneboxing gives a thumbnail image + link to the Flickr page when clicked.

500px url oneboxing give a thumbnail image + a larger view of the image in a lightbox, but no link back to the 500px page. Just something to keep in mind if you want others to be able to get back to the 500px page of an image.
