importing and processing images in the field

My images live on my fileserver. When I want to go away and still have some images available, I can select to copy locally and changes synchronise back when I’m reconnected to the fileserver.

I’m still new to darktable, though. Is there a reasonable workflow that lets me process new images in the field and have them sync back to my fileserver once I’m back? Or do I have to move the files and their xmp’s in the filesystem, then remove the images from darktable and re-add them?

You can just import the files while in the field and then, once you have your external storage attached, use the move button in the selected images module to put the files into the correct location (on the fileserver).
