Installing on Windows 11

I am going to be upgrading computer system to Windows 11. Now that Windows 11 has been out for a while, I am interested to hear comments on how satisfied anyone is using darktable on it.

Will have plenty or RAM, Storage etc.

Yes I agree. It will be whole new system, not an upgrade.

This is not great for dt. A real GPU will be better with at least 4Gb of memory would be better.

I use dartkable on win 11 without issues. Iā€™ve not done a performance test of the same image/processing in both system, but it feels faster in fedora than windows. Iā€™ve been doing some windows/fedora test for HL and I will try to remember to do this.

Everything else this computer has is what I need for other programs as well as dt. When you say its not great for dt, what exactly do you mean? Too slow, program wont work well etc. Just trying to see why you think its not great. Is there another you can recommend I look for in a system?

Some of the modules in darktable uses GPU to do math. GPU are faster at doing math than just CPU.

I prefer nvidia cards.

Pay attention to system updates. There are also optional updates. Ensure Windows system / optional updates donā€™t interfere with hardware firm/software. Sometimes it can be better; other times something stops working. PS - There were a few major updates recently.

I ran DT on WIn10 for a long timeā€¦now Win11ā€¦no real issues but a dedicated video card will for sure helpā€¦

The GPU is a 10x factor with the modules I use. Your results may vary depending on raw file size and modules you use.
