Yes, as @pehar was mentioning above there is also an issue of trust. I understand that people would feel more comfortable if they were interacting with an “official” repository.
This is a bit of a chicken and egg problem, though. The purpose of the experiment is to verify the appetite of the community for something like this. If this appetite becomes obvious, then we can think of institutionalizing it, otherwise no one (me included) will be willing to spend more effort on it.
