Itty bitty spider resting in her ant graveyard

I received some great tips on this forum recently, and I acquired some extension tubes. Here’s my favorite shot so far. This spider was probably only a few millimeters across, and I kept losing it if I wasn’t looking through my camera. Have Fun!

Not having been there, I have no idea where to set the white balance; I went with Daylight in Color Calibration.

this is a hard one as they blend into the background … I slapped a Fuji Astia LUT in for slightly more saturation.

EDIT: for a macro shot, zooming closer to the subject might be cooler, or a nice wallpaper

Not really happy with my edit. The spider blends in so much with the background.

And it should, right?

If you ask nature, fore sure. if you ask the photographer…

The only solution for some separation would be to photograph the spider level, from the front, but that’s impossible in some scenarios. In this case possible to get a close angle by sitting the camera/lens on the stone, but without knowing the scene it’s hard to say if that was possible…

Very nice play!

Gone a bit further than usual and had to mask the spider manually. Have not yet mastered AI masking, way to many control points to adapt the not yet perfect results of it. Have to look in the manual for that…

It was tough just getting the spider in focus. out of the 40+ pictures, this and one other were the only two I was happy with. Would the other one be easier to separate?

For the fun of it, bit the same recipe, used AI mask this time, manually adapted.
