Lighttable Anomoly

Performed an “Import>Add to Library” operation on a folder that contained 7 image files. The resulting view in Lightroom follows:

If you look at what gets displayed there is a strange bunch of text superimposed on the thumbnail for the second image for the left edge in the first row. Also, there is no filename present as in the other 6 thumbnails which all get displayed as expected. What’s this about?

What you cannot tell from the screenshot is that the peculiar thumbnail is for an image in TIFF format that was developed from one of the raw files using the software provided by Canon called DPP4. There is another file in TIFF format that was developed using Rawtherapee (thumbnail displayed directly below the odd one) which is displayed as expected.

Would you like to upload the affected file?

I’ve now noticed something odd that seems to explain the problem. What I hadn’t noticed prior to posting this topic is that the problem image file had a peculiar filename. The filename that was intended is “EOSR0056.DPP412.TIF”. However, an extra dot got used by mistake and instead it was “EOSR0056.DPP412…TIF” (An XMP sidecar file using the same extra dot also got created).

Note: Looks like this website doesn’t like using 2 periods (dots) in text in succession as I see that 3 dots get displayed when doing so. The filename actually had 2 consecutive dots rather than 3.

I couldn’t figure out how to rename the file from within Darktable (DT) which seems to me like something that should be possible. If so how? However, by closing DT and renaming it using Windows File Explorer the problem was gone when I opened DT again. Since, I’m real new to DT I was a little surprised by that because of the Library Database that DT maintains that I’ll have to admit I know very little about right now.

With that said, even though unintended, the problem filename was plenty legitimate and did NOT cause any kind of problem for either Windows or other software dealing with that specific file. In that, it looks to me like there is something for DT to fix.

Not possible.
