Low megapixel late day light

Had had the time to try out my GAS acquisition, the Olympus E500.

Its hard to expose correctly, so this device is maybe a good teacher.

No idea how to handle such low DR sensor.

The export from Darktable:

The raw itself:

At ISO 100 it’s not too far off my 5D at base ISO, at least for deep shadow noise. Midtone noise of course is worse, but not really a big deal at low ISO.

Of note is that you exposed this raw PERFECTLY, giving it the best possible exposure.

With Filmulator:

Auto CA Correct 1
Highlight Recovery 1 (which just un-clips the white balanced data, good for perfectly preserving well-exposed raw data)
Exposure Comp -1
Chroma NR 13.58
Drama 100
White Clipping Point 0.527
Shadow Brightness 617

Here is a DT edit with no tone mapper used. Mainly tone equalizer and shadow and highlights to recover highlights and shadows followed by local contrast to put contrast into the image.

Sadly, almost no cameras have raw histograms.

That last one is really nice.

Couldn’t get the lovely orange sunset, But then I tried probably too quickly. Instead I got some yellow showing in the middle. Oh, opened in RT and did most of the editing in gimp

Here’s my go with generally using RT and Game changer protocol… Thanks for sharing!

I agree…

Hello @redgoblin83
Your picture is the most mysterious of all the examples, probably because it doesn’t show everything and leaves quite a few details in the dark. In any case, I like it best. You don’t need to do anything with the picture; it’s perfect just as you’ve shown it.
