Lut 3D issue - image instead of lut data

Hi guys, I saved some free luts on my computer, specified the folder in Processing in DT and tried to use one… I have opened the folder via DT, picked one of cube files and got the error: INVALID and the comment was: “the file path (relative to lut folder) is saved with image (and not the lut data themselves)”. Nothing is changed in the picture,
Cube file were downloaded from ON1 site and they have worked to some of the DT users.
Do you happen to know what it is about and what should be done?

I don’t understand exactly what you done. To use LUTs in Darktable you need to

  1. Specify in the settings where the folder with LUTs are.
  2. Activate the LUT module in darkroom and select the lut you want to use. If the purpose of the LUT is colour grading (and not colour correction) you usually get more predictable result by moving the LUT module after the filmic module in the pipeline. See the relevant chapter in the manual.
  3. The LUT data is neither saved in the original image, nor in the sidecar file (the xmp files).

I did all those, but I got a new hint today to store them in a particular place in darkatble folders (Program files/darktable/share/darktable/3d luts) and it worked! Thanks for helping out though

You can set your own root folder for your luts in the global preference dialog box under the page “processing”.
