Can Digikam copy, move and delete companion files such as .xmp and .pp3 when performing those actions on the parent jpg/raw files?
digikam will keep track of .xmp files (at least those with its naming scheme).
The .pp3 files and others like it are probably ignored, though (no reason digikam should keep track of files from external programs which can change at any time).

Yes, mostly, but you will have to set it up.
Settings > Configure > Metadata > Sidecars > additional sidecar extensions
There you can list the sidecar extensions.

Thank you @foto That’s just what I needed. Now I can start the enormous task of cleaning up my messy photos folder
