Tried to copy an image from the edge of the photo to somewhere in the 3rd rule.
I had partial success by using the retouch in reverse (placing the replacement as target and the target as replacement), but it alwasy seems to come degraded, and half-transparent. and “soft”.
Is there any simple and way to do that?

You could try the clone tool instead of heal. You could also try the composite module with a mask. But honestly, I don’t think this is a job for a raw developer, but rather one for a pixel editor, like Gimp.
This is a job for GIMP, but using the clone tool in darktable would move the selection to a new location but the edges would probably look rough. You would then need to use the clone and or healing tools to remove the original “image” from the edge as it would still be there.
