Ok! A couple months and a couple hundred artworks later…
- Rawtherapee has completely replaced my use of Adobe Camera Raw
- I purchased Lumariver Repro Edition
- I set up what seems to me a reasonable RT preset after some experimentation (I’ll make a separate post about this)
- Bonus: I’ve switched from X-Rite software to Argyll CMS for printer ICC creation too!
- This setup has been a game-changer and whooboy have I learned a lot about the technical side of color correction in the last couple months
I tried color card procressing in Darktable as suggested - but it only creates matrix corrections. Fine for portraits and landscapes but sometimes worse-than-nothing in artwork reproduction. That’s the same problem I was having using X-Rite’s software, built in profiles for my camera were often better than a custom one if using only a matrix correction.
Lumariver has been the best investment I’ve made so far. It does have lots of room for improvement (like reporting, workflow speed optimization, crashing when using more than one custom card, crashing when doing new multicard profiles without restarting the program first) but its absolutely amazing how much better of a start I get on the color-matching using it compared to other things I’ve tried.
Does anyone know if Argyll CMS has a forum or something? For some reason I’ve having trouble finding anything, but it seems like an obvious thing that would exist…
