130 DPI. I guess that’s fine for this huge size, but it’s not really “retina” High-DPI, either. Think of this as a lower-resolution version of 2x 27" 4K (same width, more height).
To say nothing of the price.
Come to think of it, a dual-4K27 screen would probably be ideal for me. Usable as two 16/9 screens for window organization and screen sharing; but with no seam, so as to allow wide screen gaming.
My partner has the ASUS ProArt Display PA348CGV, a 34" ultra wide. It is quite nice and about the right size for sitting at a normal computer monitor distance away from it. I’ve recently bumped up to a 27" Pro Art 2K display and I think that’s as large as I can go sitting at my desk. Any larger and I’d have to sit further away from it, I don’t really see the point.
I use two Asus ProArt PA27UCGE. They are very good, and very expensive 27" 4K160 98% DP3 IPS displays with built in hardware calibration. I hope they will last me a long while.
I also have a 27 inch pro art , came up from a 21 inch so it was a great improvement. But aside from gaming, I fail to see the need for anything larger than 30 inch…
well yes, gaming is done on the 75" TV in the living room. But I sit like 6 feet away from that. I only sit 18 inches from my 27" monitor.
Is it PC gaming or on a Console?
27" 2k is a pretty good sweet spot for me. I have a vertically oriented 1080p garbage monitor as well that I’m considering either upgrading or ditching entirely. I have found myself using it less and less over the past year.
Console. But might be a steam machine sometime soon.
I use a 42" LG C4 and it works perfectly fine. Although sometimes I wish I had a more traditional setup.
I recently picked up a used Dell UHD 27” (UltraSharp U2723QE). I’m relying on factory cal for the RGB display profile since I’m too cheap to buy a calibration device.
I’m still adjusting to this monitor. I’ve noticed that I’m using less sharpening than previously in most cases. With my old 1k monitor I needed to zoom in to check sharpness. So I must have done too much pixel-peeping. In most cases, the new capture sharpening is enough for my taste.
I’m also using color assessment mode* much more often, since display brightness and contrast are a function of monitor settings.
*The light-bulb icon that makes a white border.
I do not like curved monitors for photo editing. The 32” one seems to be the largest one without the curve.
I’m currently on a 32” monitor and it’s really the smallest I’d get if I’d buy something new. I love this size (but would probably get something bigger if possible)!
Its not recommended that you use curved displays for photo or video work due to the distortion. Displays this big are good for gaming and Office work.
I have an ageing Dell 24" U2415. It is only 1920*1200.
I guess the resolution is good enough for me, but who knows, if I upgraded I might find out what I’m missing! But what I really value is the aspect ratio: I do not want more length and less height.
I am on a Acer 24" ConceptD which is 1920*1200 and have no real complaints about the resolution either. It works out well enough for prints!
I am looking for a new monitor as well. I have a BenQ 27" which has worked well for 5-6 years, but now it flickers at times and recently I have encountered a black screen of death for a second here and there (no error message, just black). Not sure whether this is a monitor issue or something else. (PC was custom built less than a year ago and has been flawless).
Anyway, what do folks here think of BenQ? Moving upscale, and (I guess) eliminating the need for 3rd party monitor calibration, what about Eizo–worth the money?
I had a 30" monitor at work for years, and it was just a little tooooo big. 27" is actually my preferred size. I am not sure that 4K even makes sense at this size…
I’ve used two BenQ PD2700U (27" 4K sRGB) before my current screens. They were very good. Never had a problem with them.
