I open this thread for people having trouble to get stable renders.
Using Linux and a AMD Threadripper, Natron was crashing very often while rendering and also lost single frames.
Here some tricks to get reliable renders:
- use a secondary harddrive as disk cache and set the cache folder to this drive. Make sure to empty it from time to time (when its full, Natron also crashes often).
- if you have a hi-end multi threading processor, go to settings and limit the “Number of parallel renders”. You can experiment with this setting, start with 1 and try to go up in increments.
(for me the limit was 8 parallel renders, going higher led to crashes)
- use a “disk cache” node and first cache before rendering.
Thanks to everyone on the discord channel helping to hunt the bug down!
