Natron render stalls / viewer frozen: use DiskCache!

Hi guys,

First of all, great work with Natron. Keep it up
Unfortunately since I’ve updated OSX, Natron is constantly crashing or freezing viewer, and then crashing on program closing.

Try clearing all caches and restarting Natron

Unfortunately that didn’t help. After few zoom in and out in viewer or changing some parameters it gets errors in the viewer and crashes when I quite Natron.

Can you try if the latest snapshot works better?

You can also try out the 2.3.12 64bit release, built on OSX 10.9, which I’m making available at Natron - Browse /OSX/x86_64 at SourceForge.net

Hi Frédéric,

I’ve tried this 2.3.12 build, but I’m still getting errors
I’m attaching screenshots of some of them. Also you can test the script that I’m working on: https://mab.to/pS2a0LUlH

Those are simply bugs, and I very probably won’t fix these. Use the DiskCache node, as mentioned in these subjects:
https://natron.readthedocs.io/en/rb-2.3/guide/getstarted-troubleshooting.html

I will try that. Thanks for the tip.
But what do you mean, that will not be fixing these bugs?

Because I have to quit maintaining Natron, and nobody volunteered to maintain it.
I even added the possibility of having bounties on feture requests and issus (on github), but nobody even proposed a bounty.
So Natron will probably continue as it is now, with its bugs.

Oh wow, that is really bad news. So the problem is financial support?

I’m afraid I can’t help with maintaining, as I only have little background in programming, but I wanted to create some tools/gizmos - like cleanplate generator, new keyer and evening bad green/blue screens - and share them.

I think that Natron is not well known. I work full time as a vfx compositor, and most of my colleagues never heard of it. I could get involved with promoting Natron, if that helps?

Can you please write back to me at: lukas.remis[at] gmail.com ?

We were two authors/developers, and one left to develop a commercial motion graphics software. I am the only left, but I have a day job (computer vision researcher), and no more resources to give to the community.

If you want to do something, join the community, register on github and post issues there, write docs (those are just text files), offer bounties on feature requests (even small ones) to attract developers…

There is a strong group that develops pyplugs or effects using shadertoy, see https://github.com/NatronVFX/natron-plugins
