Newby questions about darktable update

Some month ago I installed darktable through the app center (Ubuntu 24 04). I got dt 4.6.1 and later upgraded to 5.0.1. I do not recall how I made this upgrade. I got a darktable folder under ~/.config where my darktablerec and data.db and library.db are. In /bin are darktable’s executables

As I wanted to upgrade to 5.2.0 I managed to find a flatpak and have that installed. Yes… it installed it’s dartablerec and databases in ~/.var/darktable. So basically I did not upgrade but installed a second version of darktable. Have yet to find where it’s executables are stored.

Before I proceed and/or do something stupid I’d better ask: what is the best way to get my pictures shown in the new version, take with me the databases, cache and preferences?

Kind regards,
Jetze

Using the official AppImage would keep your config and data files where they were, and would upgrade your database, so all your previous data would still be available.

Alternatively, overwrite the config produced by the flatpak installation with the contents of your old installation, they should be upgraded when you launch the flatpak.

Thank you for helping me out @kofa greatly appreciated! Will try first to copy the contents of the .config folder from old to new and see what happens.

Kind regards,
Jetze

Done, all well!
