No Supported Devices Found

Thought this might be useful for some folks. I attached my Sony Alpha 7II for the first time to my Ubuntu Budgie desktop. Got the message “No Supported Devices Found” from darktable. Googled it, searched this forum, found nothing, other than a few comments to eject the camera if the pc tried to mount it. Which may be true, but it isn’t the complete answer.

To get darktable to recognize my camera, I had to go into the camera menu and switch the USB Connection setting from “Mass Storage” to “PC Remote”. Hope this helps.

Yes, you need to follow instructions for gphoto2, as that is library that handles the camera control.

Aha. Thank you paperdigits. Maybe that will help me with my next question in this process.

I finally got gphoto2 installed, set the camera USB setting properly, got darktable to see my camera, and thought I had this beat. But no. When I select “Import from camera” I get a dialog that says “select images from the list below…”. Only problem is, there are no images listed. It’s a big ol’ page of nothing. Back to the drawing board.

What camera do you have? What is your aversion to taking the SD card out and plugging it into the computer?

No aversion whatsoever. As a matter of fact that is what I am in the process of doing right now, and that’s my normal pic download method. But you know how gullible us noobs are, we see a feature and we want to try it.

I have a Sony Alpha 7II. I didn’t like the Sony Playmemories software on Win10, so I always plugged the SD card into the computer. Looks like I’ll do the same with Ubuntu Budgie.

Is your camera fully supported by gpphoto2? Some cameras only have partial support.
