Picnic in the sky

This is my favourite shot from last year’s ridge trail walk at Stoos, Switzerland. In me it evokes the feeling of freedom and ‘being one’ with the sky and the mountains. I hope you’ll enjoy editing it. Have fun!

Hi. Or should i say Grüezi

Nice shot. Good job not overexposing the sky. I always have to be careful not to overexpose some parts of the image. Here is my try on your image. I find it challenging to sepparate the main subject (for me its the ridge on the right lower corner with the people) from the background. I quite like that there are people on the ridge. That gives some scale to the beautiful views we get in Switzerland.
Here is my try:

Yes, I’m getting the feeling I’ve brightened it up too much. Maybe I’ll develop it again. Here’s another shot of the same scene, showing where they are (this time, using Filmulator):

@kofa Thanks for sharing. Switzerland has breathtaking cloud scapes. Been there once (mainly Leysin). Are the people in the distance your friends or family?

Nope, they were just other people doing the same hike.

Great photo, thanks!

P.S. I thought this photo deserved a higher quality output, it’s 3.0Mb on my system, but only 1.44 here. Same resolution though. Are jpegs being compacted on upload @paperdigits ?

My take with Filmulator:

  • Auto CA Correct 1
  • Shadow Rolloff Point 0.001233
  • Film Area 65.9 to emphasize larger brightness regions
  • Drama 63.6
  • White Clipping Point 0.521
  • Shadow Brightness 370 to brighten things up without losing the clouds

There was so much going on in this photo that it was not so easy to reduce it to the essentials. I have decided for a cinematic version :cinema::

It’s interesting to see all your interpretations, from bright and bold colours to subdued ones, all the way to moody B&W. Thanks for sharing them!

Great landscape!
