Wonderful clouds!

Kept the vignetting for a more ominous look :smile:

… and the second one. Same style.

Edit: I did this by tone curve, but one could also use local masks with the exposure module, what would correspond more to real dodging & burning.

Hey boys and girls,
here are my attempts. I see, @shreedharhas had similar ideas for crops :slight_smile:

I put a little drama and all this with minimum invasive edit :smile:

@yteaot, thank you for playing with this image.

RawTherapee neutral
G’MIC: “Pyramid Processing”, “DCP Dehaze”, “Mixer [PCA]”, “Tone enhance”
GIMP plugins John Lakkas: “Color Balance” and “Color Grading”
GIMP plugin “Wavelet Denoise” for CbCr
G’MIC “Curves” and “Local Contrast Enhancement”

@yteaot Nice picture!

Here is my take in black & white, processed with PhotoFlow except for a final touch in GIMP, where I removed the tree branches in the top/right corner using the resynthesizer plug-in:

Oooh, there’s nothing like a roiling storm cloud to expose the energy of nature. With rawproc…

  • group: (new to 0.9, all processed as one tool)
    • colorspace:camera,assign;
    • subtract:camera;
    • whitebalance:camera;
    • demosaic:ahd; (librtprocess!!)
    • colorspace:Rec2020-elle-V4-g10.icc,convert,relative_colorimetric
  • blackwhitepoint:rgb,0,25
  • crop:0.000000,0.005435,0.885870,0.799838 (just clouds)
  • curve:rgb,0.0,0.0,41.0,10.0,92.0,87.2,122.0,119.4,206.0,189.1,255.0,255.0 (here’s the heavy lifting, just pull down the darks, contrast-up the textures)
  • resize:1080,0,catmullrom
  • sharpen:5 (horrid sharpening to put in some more texture)

I tried ludicrous chroma saturation, but even I have limits… :smile:

@yteaot Thanks for sharing the drama.

@shreedhar Wind burnt face.

@ggbutcher More drama.

@sls141 Drama intensifies. First is my fav so far.

Bonus The clouds and wind remind me of the opening sequence of the film Castle in the Sky. Couldn’t find a video of it (likely due to copyright enforcement) but here the music for it. In case the embedded video of the concert doesn’t work, here is the link: 0:52:54 Kimi o Nosete (Carrying You).

Had lots of fun with this one. As I couldn’t top any of the excellent entries above, I decided to transform the photo IMG_0626.cr2. It looks like a bog now.

PhotoFlow minimal no-clip linear float, ca correction
gmic crop, afre_fftfun, afre_local_contrast, negate, mirror, 2 curves, resize

Zoom and enjoy!
