If you have ever used a program that uses the awesome exiv2 (and a LOT of programs use exiv2), please consider thanking the exiv2 volunteer Robin Mills for his hard work as a bug wrangler for the exiv2 project through the years. It seems Robin has reached the point where he is burned out, which is far from an unheard of experience in the FOSS world. He is indicating he’d like to step away from the exiv2 project.
You can thank him by emailing him at email address listed on the bottom left of his home page. I think he’d appreciate it, especially right now!
Yes, agreed. Many, many thanks to Robin for all the great work and hours he has spend on exiv2.
I would add a request for anyone with coding skills and a bit of time to step up and help out with the exiv2 project. It’s a critical piece of infrastructure.
From Robin himself, he is hoping there may be some folks able to step in and assist the project. C++ skills would be most helpful and he’s willing to mentor newcomers in June after he gets a v0.26 out.
Thank You to everybody who send me email to thank me for my work. Your encouragement is so rewarding. Thanks, very much. I’ll get v0.26 out in June 2016 and hope to get v0.27 out in 2017. That’ll be my 10th Anniversary of working on the project. And perhaps the time to refocus my attention on other items on the bucket list: Bucket List
I attended the Libre Graphics Meeting 2016 in London last weekend and met Pat. Well done, Pat. This forum looks very useful. I also met some of the folks involved with GIMP, PhotoFlow, RawTherapee, DarkTable and FontForge. The dedication of the open source code warriors is inspirational.
