Reccomendations for Books about Digital Image Processing

Heyya,

I’ve been following the discussion on here about the several tonemappers and modules, their implementations and what they mean.
I’ve also recently revisited the works of Steve Yedlin about colorscience and processing which I found really enlighting and made me rethink how I can process the images that I take.

What I find is that I am really interested in trying to understand how digital cameras capture images, how these are processed and how to transform the light data into what I want.

As I got asked for a suitable christmas present I wanted to ask if anyone can reccommend me a Digital Photography Book.

What I am looking for

  • A book about digital Photography
  • A book that goes into technical details
  • A book that might even cover mathematical subjects( for example different tonemapping solutions)
  • A book that is mostly software agnostic. I want to be able to recreate workflows.

What I am not looking for

  • A book focused on beginners of Photography
  • A book on the art of photography
  • A book that is purely academical. They can be hard to follow if they are not paired or broken down into a course.

Addendum:

  • The Videos by Boris Hajdukovic go into a detail level I like.
  • I speak English and German

I’ve been looking for good resources for this as well.

The best I’ve been able to find are

Both of these resources are quite good.

I don’t think you will find much about that in the book format. Companies keep their own transformations proprietary, and it is not only a technical subject, as a lot of it is aesthetic decisions.

The acescentral (https://acescentral.com/) and Blender Artists (https://blenderartists.org/) forums may be of interest.

Too late for Christmas, I’m afraid:

Cheaper as an ebook than a hard copy
