Retouching workflow automation in GIMP?

Has anyone found some good ways of automating steps in their retouching workflow in GIMP?

I’m thinking about portraits but the same could apply to anything that requires editing details and dodging/burning/colour-correction with masks.

So far, I’ve been able to take my .tif output files from Rawtherapee and use Batcher to give them all frequency separation groups (thanks @chuckhenrich) and save them as .xcf.

I have some curves and hue/saturation presets that I can select. What I’d really like though is to find an automatic way of adding a few new-from-visible layers after this, which each have a particular blending mode, layer effect & preset, along with a mask.

I haven’t been able to figure out how to do this with Batcher yet. What are some other options?

I might have a look at scripting if I get time but am a bit daunted…

Interested to hear what others are doing!

It seems that Batcher enable users highly customizable batch processing with “add Custom Action”.

If you cannot do what you want with Batcher, I think you have to write your own scripts.
