Here is my B&W edit. I tried to lean towards a more “natural” look, rather than boosting the local contrast really hard. I think @AtaraxicShrug 's edit might be a better one

Yours is 1) cleaner and more detailed, 2) more likely to be achievable in a darkroom, and 3) more faithful to the idea of aurora (mine looks more like clouds being captured)
In many ways, your would be seen as a better image by the photography folks that I interact with the most. My personal opinion is that there is room for both “looks”. 
But I appreciate the sentiment of your post!

That’s very kind of you, but I am not sure I agree hahaha
It is funny how wide a range of edits are possible, even though in my own editing I often feel stuck or like I might be rehashing my own old ideas. Then I see the dozens of very different interpretations of the image by others, and I feel happy that all of our edits are generally different.

I tried @thumper 's Codec_t1 AgX preset. Two-click edit (exposure and AgX).

The reflections from the “bridge” were bothering me, but now I see there was a vehicle or train that passed by on long exposure.
