"Rotate and perspective" overwrites "crop" settings

I haven’t used darktable in a while and recently upgraded to 3.8.1. I have a picture I want to crop and rotate a little. If I remember correctly there was a “crop and rotate” module. Now I can find only “crop” and “rotate and perspective”.

So I used “crop” first. Then I turned on “rotate and perspective” but this immediately overwrote my crop settings.

I am a little confused what the correct way to crop and rotate an image is now.

Rotate and perspective is earlier in the pixelpipe then crop. So even if you crop first and then rotate, the rotation is applied first. In this case the image dimension are changed. So in your case you are cropping on an image with a different size.
To avoid this you should respect the pixel pipe order for these geometry related modules

I think I get it. But it’s a pretty odd workflow. Most software has rotation in the crop module (as darktable did) which makes more sense to me.

und wo ist das Problem

es gibt kein Problem. darktable hat halt eine andere Lösung als andere Tools die sich an den Voraussetzungen im darktable workflow orientiert.

there is no problem. darktable simply provides a different solution than other tools based on the prerequisites in the darktable workflow.
