Same settings in different module.

I am learning darktable. Let me try to simplify mu question by an example:

We can adjust 'contrast’in multiple modules. Basic Adjustments, Contast Brightness Saturation, Color balance.

Are all of the module does the same thing? If we want to adjust global contrast, is there any order of preference of the modules to use?

Not all are the same. Color Balance works in RGB, and the rest work in LAB. RGB is preferred, but you can still use the LAB modules, just don’t push them too far.
