Shooting a wedding ceremony for a friend and could use some advice

Thanks @Terry . The RF 18-150 f/3.5-6.3 is a great lens, but I’m a little concerned that it’s a bit slow on the long end. It would indeed cover my focal length requirements quite nicely. Any additional thoughts on that?

I wouldn’t buy a lens for just this job in the church. The R7 handles high ISO very well to compensate for the limited aperture when zoomed. If becoming a full time wedding photographer then maybe buy a dedicated lens, but that is not the case I am reading about here. When I was a wedding photographer we used film and didn’t have the option of high ISO so you are ahead of my experiences already. Seriously I wouldn’t blink an eyelid using 6400 ISO on the R7 for church shots if needed and I doubt it would be needed. I often shoot my R7 at 32000 but would not recommend that for a wedding.

Thanks Terry. I was only considering the new lens because I’m probably going to buy it later this year, so it makes sense to put it to good use a bit earlier.

Instead of looking at lenses consider lighting, it’s the thing you actually need in this scenario.

Whatever sphere modifier for your on camera flash is well worth it.

The 24-105 lens you are looking at is mainly designed for a full-frame camera but on your camera would be about a 38 to 168mm equivalent lens after a 1.6 crop factor. Its up to you to decide why this lens would be an advantage to your shooting style. It is not very wide on your camera and is not as long as your current lens so I am not seeing the advantage except maybe (just maybe) sharper images but is your current lens disappointing you?

I had meant the Zuiko 12-40 f/2.8 which I could use in tandem with the Canon.

But I went to the church this afternoon and took some test shots and I think you’re right that I’d be ok with the 18-150.
