Shortcut m in RT doesn't return to the original interface

I am still in RawTherapee_dev_5.8-2995-g166538dbc_W64_Skylake_210613

When I press “m” or the “hide all side panels” icon, the side panels are collapsed as expected. In this case no top or bottom panel is shown.
When m is pressed once more to return to the starting point - the top panel in this case is introduced and not the current configuration of the user interface.

Before m is pressed:

After m has been pressed once:

After m has been pressed twice (to return)

I wonder if this is intended. I would expect the same interface to reappear.

Using m (or the show/hide icon) gets you back to your startup state.

I do think this is as-intended. It isn’t linked to the m shortcut either, pressing the show/hide icon also shows this behaviour.

According to RawPedia the intention of m is “Toggle all panels’ visibility (maximize preview area).”, so it makes sense that all panels return visible after pressing it twice.

I agree it may be a little smarter if the exact previous state returned…

Yes, m is shown as the shortcut for the “Show/hide all side panels” icon (the four arrows) - so it should be the same function. Still not very intuitive to return to another combination of panels - in my opinion.

I’ll state once more that all my “complaints” here are posted in the spirit of improving RT, not to annoy anybody.

Yeah, I agree with you and @Thanatomanic’s opinion.

It would also be “nice” if the panel-free view (m) would let the crop fill the screen - if this was the condition before pressing m.
After having pressed m we have to further press “Fit crop to screen” (f) to obtain the original condition.
