I’ve come up with two module group presets, both for a scene-referred workflow. One of them targets legacy, the other modern chromatic adaptation. The modules in the different categories will probably vary from person to person; I tried to get the quick access panel really simple, so people coming from other tools will not be shocked.
Both have filmic on top, with the curve (chart), white and black relative exposure (including the eye droppers), contrast, latitude, shadows ⇿ highlights balance; then highlight reconstruction with just the method selector; finally, basic white balance controls (temperature, tint and settings (including the possibility to select an area from the image) for white balance and I think all the controls for color calibration in the other case).
You may notice I omitted a basic tool: exposure. That’s simply because most of the time I just use the scroll wheel on the histogram. Perhaps for absolute newcomers, including it would make sense.
The presets are attached; use preferences ⇾ presets ⇾ import to add them to darktable.
Its a great idea to publish this…I suspect other might have QA panels to share as well. It doesn’t seem to get much attension. When it does there seem to be two approaches…1 cram your basic workflow on to it or perhaps as you have here simplify it and put only the tools that you might tweak a few times during an edit…
Might be a nice thread for sharing if anyone has put some time into theirs…its on my list for the new year to revisit…
Thx
Funny I just saw this video today …one of the few if any I have ever seen on the topic.
