Small reptile in Swiss Alps

Hi,

This weekend we made a trip to the Swiss Alps to Taminaschlucht. At some place I found this cute reptile, where I got lucky. I am now thinking about having the picture printed and hanging on the wall.

What would you make of this picture?

I didn’t find much that needed changing.

I think it’s not a reptile but an “Alpensalamander”, a kind of newt. But cute anyway.

Salamanders are amphibians, not reptiles :upside_down_face:

Great shot! I chose a different crop for to skip the dark background line.

Nice shot!
Tried to give it more colour, but the salamander is pure gray

Cute little wet animal!
Here is my take with darktable.

I am not sure this is the right color of the animal. Is it darker in real life?

@arctic, if I remember correctly, it was a bit darker in real life, almost (or completely?) black. On Wikipedia it says: “Usually black or brown-black”.

@BayerSe Nice capture: they can disappear before one can get the shot. What type of printing, framing and hanging are you thinking?

Thanks @afre! I am currently exploring the options and will go with either acrylic glass or aluminium dibond. Not decided yet, though.

PhotoFlow (minimal as always) + G’MIC (custom as always)

@afre : Interesting! Yeah, I know that that can have different meanings…

I almost immediately came back to this rendition and had a better look. This image lends itself well for a “monochrome” look. I double quoted that 'cause the noise/mist effect has a nice colouring. That effect works well with the out of focus parts of the original image.

Also: your crop, which seems somewhat unconventional but works very nicely.

@Jade_NL I am glad your experience went in that direction. I wanted to make it the kind of image that one would linger on, seeing more as they contemplate.

I was also inspired by @BayerSe’s consideration of aluminum dibond. Although it doesn’t have that look per se, it does have a somewhat metallic appearance.

Added just a bit of colore
