In previous versions of Gimp I could snap to specific pixels with the offset options. This helps as I have a standard set of pixels I snap to in order to build my graphics.
Is there a way to do this in Gimp 3? It looks like the feature is removed and I cannot find a workaround.
Not a very good replacement I fear, In the View Menu there is now a āSnap to Equidistanceā option. Enable that set the first two layers at the required distance the moving further layers brings up a āoffsetā indicator between the layers. Ok for for a few layers, not so clever if you have 30 or 40.
That is for odd sized layers, if you have a stack of equal sized layers, then it is a bit easier, a bit of arithmetic, and a bit of messing with the stack order.
Confused ? A 4 minute video, 2 minutes on each part.
I wholeheartedly appreciate the video you sent. The snap to equidistant is a neat feature, but as I think you are seeing as well it requires the inclusion of other items and then manually placing them. The second part you mentioned is sort of interesting if itāll allow for addition in saved xcf files, but Iāll have to play with it if it will work without a lot of manual work.
To give some clarity to what I do, I essentially have four items, show in the pictures as squares 1, 2, 3, and 4. In this 500px by 250px graphic, each one is 20px from the top, bottom, left, and right accordingly. To do the āoldā way of doing it, setting the XY pixels at 20 and 20 for top-left, then -20 and 20 for top-right, 20 and -20 for bottom-left, and -20 and -20 for bottom-right. This is incredibly fast in previous versions of Gimp and is perfectly placed (for my work) every time. My work is not so much photo art but repeatable graphics related art where the elements āsnapā to the corners, with different elements for each different print. Iām being vague so as to not seem like Iām advertising for myself, but I think with the picture it might be a little clearer. There may not be a current solution in Gimp 3 for this, and I hope in future versions this feature is brought back. Thank you again for your upload and for responding!
Would guides do what you want? Theyāre the intended tool for that kind of spacing as far as I know, and you can set them up using pixel measurements.
I was watching this and if this is guides, it seems great at distributing evenly or spacing evenly. What I was able to do in previous versions is select an object and place it exactly 20 pixels from the left and then take another object and place it exactly -20 pixels from the right. Evenly spacing them is a neat feature, but my use case is putting the objects in the corners or just inside the corners of the image.
I didnāt see a way to set exact pixels for guides- is there a special option for that?
