The forthcoming 0.3.x versions of PhotoFlow will provide a quite complete soft-proofing tool for previewing on-screen the final result of a paper-print or an sRGB output for web viewing.
Here is a screenshot of the soft-proofing dialog:
The dialog lets the user choose an ICC profile from disk, or use one of the built-in profiles (sRGB, Rec.2020, AdobeRGB…), set the colorimetric intent of the conversion from the working to the output colorspace, and enable/disable black point compensation in the working → output profile conversion.
Two options (simulate black ink and simulate paper color) let the user control the way the output image is displayed on screen:
- simulate black ink sets the rendering intent of the output → display profile conversion to relative colorimetric and turns off black point compensation so that the paper black level (usually higher than the one of the monitor) can be judged on-screen
- simulate paper color sets the rendering intent of the output → display profile conversion to absolute colorimetric
A gamut warning checkbox enables the highlighting of image portions that are outside of the gamut of the output profile, and which therefore will not be accurately reproduced.
