(Solved) Color problems at saturated highlights with Filmic

Hi,
I’ve got a problem when editing images similiar to the one below, where there are naturally very saturated highlights, such as flowers (like here), or the sky during sunset. Using the filmic module (version 6) the highlights become quite bland looking. Without filmic the colors are very saturated and out of gamut, but they look much more natural.
Have you got any tips… ? I’d like to stick to using filmic, since it’s the only way I’m able to achieve good contrast in the image while having highlights and shadows clipping under control.
Thanks for help.

With filmic v6 (2022) (adding saturation or brightness doesn’t really help)

Use v5 color preservation set to none and tweak the latitude and amount of saturation to suit… v6 has the gamut handcuffs it has been called…there is a lot of discussion around these issues on the forum already… I think one involves a sunflower image … I am off to meetings but if you search the forum you will likely land on it… I will edit later with the link… You can also try sigmoid…it might work well for this image…

You may also try sigmoid, or skip both, and tone down the highlights using tone equalizer.

Thank you :+1:
I’ve never tried color preservation set to “no” using Filmic v5, that’s exactly what I was looking for.
I’ve tried almost everything, but nothing worked the way I wanted to.

@kofa made some good suggestions… I often also edit with out it… using tone eq, color balance, local contrast, diffuse and sharpen and sometimes the channel mixer feature or color tabs of CC module collectively with the std lens correction and denoise are often a good combination for me and I often find it easier to manage details and contrast… other times if DNR is high then filmic is nice and can also really help nicely with blown highlight areas…

Actually, I took that from you

@Vente How do you set black and white point in filmic? Have you tried to increase white point?

Yes, I have tried to manipulate the white point, but it either turned white (dragging it leftwards) or the highlights became too dark :person_shrugging:
The highlights also looked like they turned pink.
Filmic v5 with preserve chrominance set to no works well.
