If you click in some of the empty space and drag around, are you able to see the images? I don’t really use this view much but it does look like you can make the photos disappear off the viewable space if the window is resized.
Sometimes when opening darktable (at least for me on Windows) it will open in a window that is not maximized, and then will maximize after things load.
Here’s the issue in action. I resized darktable to a smaller than usual size for me for demonstration.
Now I dragged the bottom of the darktable window up to reduce the size of the entire application window. The lighttable view doesn’t move anything to accommodate this change, and thus the images are disappeared out of view.
Did you try clicking in the empty space and dragging around? That’s the important part. Your images may just be off the visible space and need dragged back into view.
Yes I just tried and nothing happens. I get my images back by clicking on the file manager layout.
If I exit when the file manager layout is active, then when starting again, DT shows my files.
I guess it behaves differently based on the window manager. I’m currently using X11 and sometimes next month I plan to switch to Wayland, then I’ll see if that helps.
I can confirm it doesn’t show images when opening darktable if zoomable lighttable is what it loads into. Switching to anything else and back to the zoomable view correctly displays the images.
