Some feedback and wishess (edited)

Here are some things I noticed using RT for the last months and some suggestions for improvement I have:

Lab Adjustments

Equalizer

  1. All the equalizer based tools (LH, CH, HH) have a drop down list with the two options linear and equalizer. As linear is the same as a reset equalizer, I would think it is obsolete. The button should just be there to make the equalizers visible or invisible, but no drop down list. This would save some unecessary clicks.
  2. When activating an equalizer I often see only about 2/3 of the equalizer.

It only shows the whole thing after I hover over the button (in this example the H button)

The LC module

I don’t quite understand how this works.
Here’s an image with the LC module in default mode:

And here’s the same image with everything boosted:

To my understanding boosting the colorless parts should also raise luminosity in the dark part in the bottom of the image but it does only affect certain parts.
??

RGB Curves

I love to use the RGB curves in luminosity mode. And I also love to use them in standard mode to tone images. Sadly I can only use one of the two options. Two sets of RGB curves would be awesome!

Cheers

Point 2 is a known bug in Gtk3

Linear is not the same as reset. When you reset, all your modifications are lost. However, after making changes, if one chooses linear for some reason and then go back to equalizer, it starts with previous adjustments. I have used this feature a lot in the past. Thus, I strongly suggest that those two options should remain.

I fully agree on this …

Yes I understand that, but if you could also save partial profiles to save settings you want to go back to later. For me at the moment, I use LH, CH, HH extensively and it’s three extra clicks (ok, admitted I could also prepare a profile for that).
Anyway, these are just some things I notice in my workflow, so I understand that other people might find this feature helpful.

So, why do you need the change then? (Honest question…)

Hi, did you uncheck this?

Going back to the linear option is basically a ‘disable’ option of the equalizer, correct? From that point of view, I would strongly prefer an easier way to switch between unmodified and modified. Would a checkbox be possible?

Edit: just to clarify, that going back to linear should never reset your modifications in the equalizer, just simply disable them (linear passthrough?).

Honest answer, because it is just not in my standard profile as I don’t always use these but I use them often.
It is just a comfort or laziness matter. Nothing crucial.
Though I think @Thanatomanic’s suggestions would be a good solution, if it isn’t technically complicated.
Again, this isn’t hugely important it would only be more comfortable, I my opinion.

That’s it! Thanks!!

How about the double RGB curves?
Is that feasible?

Feasible yes, high-priority… not for me at the moment, sorry.

Double RGB curves? What is that?

It means you will be able to apply it twice.

Dear Santa, I’ve been a very good boy this year and I would like you to bring me some fixes. Like this one where part of the tool is not displayed, I just had it playing with RGB Curves. A click can sort it out, or minimise and reinstate the window. Given it’s gtk, is there a workaround possible in RT until it’s fixed in gtk3 (assuming it will be fixed?) E.g. a right-click in the grey area below the tool that “re-displays” the RT window, thus forcing the whole tool to be shown? I would also like the converging verticals tool like Darktable has. Best wishes to the reindeer.

Hover the buttons around the tool will refresh the display.
